The 3080 chip has proven to be a staple in both vintage and modern compression. The chip was been integrated into this circuit in a way that provides a tasteful squeeze without crushing your dynamic range. Similar to a FET style compressor, the response to its input signal can have an effect on the amount of tasteful harmonic content applied to the compression. The amount of necessary compression is predetermined, leaving you with only your volume to worry about. Pushing the signal above unity also makes for a great boost.
