This circuit starts removing unwanted noise as soon as it is clicked on. Regardless of where the threshold knob is set, you will notice a reduction is hisses and hums. To use this effect as intended the knob must be adjusted so that it doesn't cut out the guitars signal prematurely. Rolling the knob back will allow for your guitar to maintain lots of sustain while leaving your muted signal completely silent.
