Description

USED - 1960s St. George Electric 12-String – Made in Japan

A super vibey piece of 1960s MIJ history, this St. George 12-string was made circa 1966 and originally sold through an upstate New York shop—likely George Music. There’s a bit of mystery around these, with some ties to FujiGen/Ibanez-style builds and others pointing to the lesser-known Shiro factory.

Either way, it’s got all the right ingredients. Great player with typical playability of this era MIJ guitar.

The standout here is the German carve body paired with an awesome original blue finish that just screams mid-century cool. It’s a head-turner before you even plug it in.

The pickup switches have been replaced, but everything functions as it should. Plugged in, it delivers that full, chimey 12-string sound with plenty of punch and character.

A killer vintage piece for anyone looking to add something unique (and very 60s) to their lineup.

From PulseBeat Guitars: "St. George guitars - (manufactured from the late 50's to late 60's) - were designed by Anthony George and built in Japan. The St. George brand was associated with 2 Japanese import companies, Buegeleisen & Jacobson of New York and WMI of Los Angeles from the mid to late 1960's.

Anthony George opened the St. George Music Supply store on Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles in the early 60's and his dad opened the original St. George Music Store in Utica, NY in the 50's. Both father & son were musicians.

The St. George 12-string is one of those quality-built guitars designed by Anthony George that is a perfect Jangle Machine. It's Magic with a true throw back sound. Hearing this St. George brings back all the memories of the early 60's Folk-Rock scene... with groups like the Beau Brummels and the Lovin' Spoonful.

Eventually the St. George Company was sold and the guitars produced after that point were very low quality. Quickly identifying early well-built Anthony George guitars is thru the St. George "Coat-Of-Arms" head-stock badge. The later, lower quality guitars only had a simple name plate on the head-stock."
